Curriculum Corner

The curriculum at St Mark’s Coptic Orthodox College is designed to cater for a range of ability levels and interests, and to prepare students for their studies in Years 11 and 12. The curriculum provides a wide range of choice and variety.

Students with high academic ability are supported through a differentiated curriculum and through grouping in classes which cater for advanced learners. Students who were require greater assistance with their learning are also provided the support they need within the context of the classroom to achieve their personal best. Subject choices at the College are as follows:

Year 7

Mandatory subjects: Coptic Orthodox Studies, English, Mathematics, Science, Geography, History, Personal Development Health and Physical Education, Music, Technology and Visual Arts.

Year 8

Mandatory subjects: Coptic Orthodox Studies, English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Personal Development Health and Physical Education, Music and Technology.

Languages (choose between): Arabic and Italian

Years 9 & 10

Mandatory subjects: Coptic Orthodox Studies, English, Mathematics, Science, Australian History, Australian Geography, Personal Development Health and Physical Education.

Electives (choose two): Commerce, Design and Technology, Drama, Food Technology, Graphics Technology, Information and Software Technology, Industrial Technology, Music, Physical Activity and Sports Studies, Visual Arts

Years 11 & 12

Students can qualify for the NSW Higher School Certificate by studying a minimum of 12 units in Year 11 and 10 units in Year 12.

Mandatory Subjects: Coptic Orthodox Studies, English – Advanced, Standard or EAL/D.

  • Subjects are only available if there is sufficient demand.
  • Not all subject combinations are possible due to the constraints of the timetable.
  • Individual advice is available to students to ensure that their subject selections are best suited for them – to cater for their interests, and to prepare them well for the HSC examinations and post-school options.
  • Opportunities are also available for students to attend external Vocational Education Courses at TAFE Colleges. NOTE: Not all subjects are necessarily offered each year.
